Earlier this year the Wilson City Council approved major improvements to the Lake Wilson Park, including a bathroom facility, improved boat ramp and new boat docks, sidewalks near parking areas, paved parking, and landscaping enhancements.
During the first phase of construction the parking areas will be cleared and graded to prepare for the new parking areas.
Once complete the park will have two paved parking areas, one at the front of the park and an improved lot at the site of the current parking lot.
While this work is underway, beginning during the week of September 15 through spring 2020, both current parking areas will be closed.
Limited parking will be available on the other side of the dam.
The entrance to the temporary lot is also accessible from Lake Wilson Road and will be marked with signs.
The boat ramp, kayak launch and playground will all be closed during construction. The existing playground will be replaced as part of the project.
The walking trail will be accessible, although no entry will be allowed through the construction zone, and the walking trail will not create a loop until after construction is complete.
The City says all aspects of the work "will be designed to reflect the natural beauty of the lake and park."
