CharMeck Police investigating April's first local homicide

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into a homicide in the department's Eastway Division.  

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, at around 9:24 p.m., officers responded to a shooting located in the parking lot of the Citgo Station at 1126 Morningside Drive.  When they arrived, they located a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds.  The victim was transported to the hospital by MEDIC with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital approximately 1 hour later.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from the CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, and MEDIC also assisted.

Officials said the investigation is active and ongoing and as additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD.
