Fun, gifts, learning shape art center activities

The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center’s Christmas in July membership drive isn’t the beginning, or the end, of a busy summer.

The Center’s annual Kid’s Summer Art Camp began July 9, and instructor Martha Burgin is leading a six-week course of “fun and innovative art projects designed to lead campers on a journey of creative discovery.”

Classes for ages 4 – 8 are held from 10:00am until 12:00noon. Classes for students 9 and older are held from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.

The cost for attending the full six-week Summer Art Camp is $60 per student but students can enroll in the remaining single day classes for $15 per class.

Held on Tuesdays at the Center’s Educational Complex, the Kid’s Summer Art Camp will be in session July 30 and August 6 and 13. Camp participants will be honored with a Meet the Artists reception on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. with refreshments an exhibition of artwork completed during the camp.

July 25 brings the final day of the center’s “Christmas in July” membership promotion. Anyone who purchases a $25 one-year membership or renews their existing membership will be entered in a drawing to win one of the three holiday themed prizes:

  • A $100 gift card to Biltmore Estates;

  • 4 Free Admission Passes to Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center events;

  • 2 Tickets for Reserved Seating to “A Celtic Christmas” at the ACHS Auditorium in Taylorsville.

"Our current Christmas in July membership drive is a great, affordable way to support the arts in our region and get discounts on many of the outstanding programs we offer,” said Karen Walker, HAHC’s interim director.

A special Christmas in July Friends Reception will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 6pm-7:30pm at the Center’s Lucas Mansion. The evening’s festivities will feature holiday refreshments and music, the reveal of the Center’s 2019 Lucas Mansion Christmas décor theme, and the drawing for prize winners. The drawing will be held at 7:30pm and winners are not required to be present.

The membership program helps sustain the Center financially.  Membership benefits include discounts on classes and in the Center’s gift shop, a one-year newsletter subscription, and free admission to the annual Christmas at the Lucas Mansion Open House.

Wrapping up HAHC’s summer calendar is the 38th Annual Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts, Saturday, September 28.

The Arts festival features artists, crafters, and performers and other vendors, and is held each year on the fourth Saturday in September on Hiddenite Church Road in Alexander County from 9:00am until 4:00pm. Celebration of the Arts is a free admission street festival that features family friendly activities and hands on opportunities to experience the arts.

“We are thrilled to offer the public a wide variety of classes, events, and concerts this summer and throughout the year," said Walker. “We hope everyone will be a part of what we do at the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center, celebrating the arts with us all year long."
